The Psychotronic Men - Pearl River, NY (1984-2001)

THE PSYCHOTRONIC MEN –
Pearl River, N.Y. – (1984 to 2001)

Based out of Pearl River N.Y, the musically diverse hotbed of the Rockland County underground scene came the unique sounds of The Psychotronic Men.

Formed as a sort of “one off” party band that featured many members of various successful Pearl River bands, and hell bent on serving the town’s drunken functions with a hearty “fuck you” sort of irony…..the Psychotronic Men’s early sets we’re filled with a mixture of sped up “Stones-esq” rockers, rockabilly rave-up’s, and cover songs that ranged between their own twist on “Beef Baloney” by Fear, and any standard “party” song that could be morphed into a speedy beer soaked free for all.

The early vocal duties we’re handled duly by Ted Brebbia & Ken Anselmi, which offered a sort of “good cop, bad cop” dynamic that made their early shows quite raucous and unpredictable (one show in particular at the Masonic Temple in Pearl River back in 1985 still ranks as one of the most riotous events in Pearl River music history). Ken Anselmi soon moved into the sole vocalist position, and the rest of the early line-up was rounded out by guitarist Mike Wilson on bass (veteran of many legendary Rockland bands), guitarist Matt Anselmi, and drummer Manny Fasano.

As the Psychotronic Men continued on, their musical prowess began to expand, and they actually became a quite sought after bar band, with a substantial following in and around the Tri-State area. The highlight of this line-up’s achievements was an opening slot for the Ramones in New Hampshire in the winter of 1988. The line-up soon changed with Mike Wilson moving over to 2nd guitar, the addition of Mike O’Keefe, and then Mike Anselmi on bass, and the departure of Manny Fasano on drums, to be replaced by Joe Walsh (of Borscht fame), and then by Freddy De Tauras.

This became the most solid and lasting line-up for the Psychotronic Men. They soldiered on for many years, playing in and around Rockland and enjoy a solid and loyal following to this day.
